'last item of (list folder myFolder)' returns the last item according to

'last item of myFolder' returns the item that appears last when the contents
of myFolder are arranged by kind.

So, why the difference?

OMM 'last item of myFolder' returns ":"...

Since you're using the former 'last item of (list folder myFolder)', I suppose myFolder is a string? then 'last item of myFolder' will get you last char of the string. If this gets you an item of a folder on your machine, then you must have third-party coercions. Check your osaxen.
