I've gotten some simple stuff to work, but only by using an IP address instead of a name and only by targeting a Mac OS 9 machine as the server. I think it also requires a slash at the end of the URL.

Something like so:

tell app "Finder" of machine "eppc://1.2.3.4/"
beep
end tell

I still have troubles with this, which implies to me that it simply doesn't work very well yet.
