I think those might have been situations where the URL is expanded within a
frameset belonging to the copycat, so the site looks like it is
owned/published by the copycat.
In the end, it's all about control. Maybe money, maybe reputation, but
ultimately control. I know I feel that way about my sites. I wrote the
stuff, and I want to control how and where it appears. Among other things,
that means I can be confident the only mistakes in it will be my mistakes,
not somebody else's attributed to me. And, even if I don't charge for it
now, I retain the right to charge for it someday. But I'm delighted to have
links spread far and wide.
