Bad news, guys.
AppleScript 1.7, which is installed with OS 9.2.2, changed the way
certain commands work. It seems that Smile used the old form, and
thus is completely unusable in Mac OS 9.2.2. I have successfully
downgraded AppleScript to 1.6 by copying back in the old Applescript
extension, and the 1.6 version of Standard Additions scripting
addition. You may be able to just put back in the old Standard
Additions, but I'm not sure. Basically, you used to be able ot use
shortcut forms of file specifications. One was that items on the
desktop didn't need the disk name and the "Desktop Folder" in their
path. Another had to do with using a shortcut form of (path to me).
You can still use (path to me), but not the shortcut ("" as alias, I
believe). I'm guessing Smile used one of these, or perhaps there are
other problems. Either way, it's either downgrade AppleScript, your
whole system, or use something else for now.

Every since I upgraded to 9.2.2 almost none of the menu commands work. I can
select them in the menu (they're not dimmed out) but nothing ever happens
afterward. (i.e. I'll select the find command but the find dialog never
shows up.)
When I try to set the preferences I get the message "File Mr. iBook:Desktop
Folder:downloads:Smile1.8.4US:Smile :More stuff:Preferences wasn't found"
even though I can follow that path and find that file in question.
So I've been forced to using script editor again and I'm not happy.
I observe the same problem... and I also reverted to the
script editor.
Another problem since the 9.2.2 upgrade:
tell application "Finder" to get container of (path to me) as string
causes a finder crash if a script with this command runs after and
Outlook Express run.
