It sounds to me like everything would be a heck of a lot simpler if you
used an IMAP server. That way it wouldn't matter if Mail 'fetched'
messages or if your perl script did. All the messages would remain on
the server until explicitly deleted.
In any event, we plan on continually improving the Applescript
capabilities of Mail, so we should hopefully get around to the requests
you made eventually.

P.S.: I checked your header and found this: "X-Mailer: Apple Mail
(2.502)" :-) I want that too. Can I please enroll for beta testing
Mail.app? I already have plenty of bugs to report ;-)

We don't do our own beta testing for Mail. Everything is handled by the
seeding group.
P.P.S.: How on earth did you get the cricket graphic into your message?
Is this a new feature of Mail.app? If there's another trick to do this,
please let me know.
You can put pictures in the Address Book associated with a given user's
email address. So, the image doesn't go out with the message, but if the
recipient is using Mail and has a picture in their Address Book
associated with the email address, Mail will display the picture. As far
as my picture, that's confidential. :)
P.P.P.S.: Some people are bashing Mail.app, but IMHO this is already the
coolest email client around anywhere and will only get better with the
next versions.
Well, it's pretty rare for people to go to message boards and mailing
lists and talk about how much they love a product, so we don't get too
bent out of shape about it. Glad you're enjoying Mail.
