I believe that Apple does take AppleScript fairly serious. It's not top
priority by any means, but the fact that they re-tooled their tools (PB et
al) to support ASS means something (of course, I'm putting all my money on a
company that has been know to abort even semi successful projects simply
because Steve was feeling frisky that day)
I'd venture to say, however, that AppleScript is probably dead on pre-X
systems. And it would behoove the responsible AS developer to keep a copy of
1.6 around (I'll gladly forward you a copy if you did the upgrade without
checking the AS list) so that when your clients upgrade and experience
problems, simply release a compatibility patch that replaces 1.7 with 1.6.
It's not professional nor legal, and it's a total hack, but I've had to do
worse on _other_ operating systems : )
And in the meantime, get as up to speed on OS X as you possibly can. OS X is
here and it's not going anywhere.
That's my last 2 cents for a while.
