Multi-user server-hosted script?

  • Subject: Multi-user server-hosted script?

I'm looking for a way to get a script that's hosted on a file server to be multi-user. I've tried setting the multi-user flag in ResEdit, but that hasn't helped so far. For the moment, I've got multiple copies of the same script available on the server just in case we need more than one instance.
However, this is very clunky.

It is hosted on a Mac OS X Server 1.2 system, on an HFS+ volume, if that makes any difference.

Any ideas?

Also, this same script is a drag and drop one. We occasionally have problems running the script because it won't accept drag operations from the Finder. It doesn't highlight.

We typically run the script from an Apple system CD (Mac OS 9.x) because these CDs a) come with computers (the script is used to image new ones) and b) they support DHCP-vended IP addresses (and thus AFP over IP, important for file transfers). The script's entire operation is dependent upon drag and drop working -- thanks to the limited implementation of AppleScript on Apple's system CDs (they don't have the Standard Additions OSAX, to do things like "display dialog" ... ) -- so this is a real problem. Usually, rebooting will help out. Sometimes, quitting the Finder will help.

I'd love it if someone had an idea as to why the script sometimes fails to allow items to be dropped on it from the Finder. There doesn't seem to be any rhyme or reason -- the system CD that works could fail the next time you try it, the computer that worked could fail if you try to image it again, and so on.

Thanks!
