Maybe I'm interpreting incorrectly, but the impression I got from Chris E's
statement was that AS's last minute changes were last minute responses to
changes in other parts of the OS. In other words, changes in another project did
something that broke AS functionality and the AS team had to respond to that.
And no matter how important Apple feels AppleScript is, OS X will always be much
more important to them. In other words, I don't think that Apple is about to
delay an OS update release just because AS needs a little more time.
I tend to see this statement of last minute changes as an indication of the AS
team's personal dedication to quality. You have to see it from their
perspective. Do you sit back and release a separate AS update at a later date
(keeping in mind that in the meantime, users are updating their OS to a version
that breaks AS) or do you bust your butt making last minute changes trying to
fix things that may not be 100% but are better than 0% and then cleaning up
afterwards.
I work in the printing industry and have found that as soon as you have to make
a deadline-related decision you're screwed. And when you're dependant on other
departments, you're just plain screwed ;)
