It's not you. :-(Scripting Style specs is broken in QXP 4.x.)-:
The first useable version (4.04) came out in September 1998.
But you couldn't create or edit or query Style specs anymore.
Later, the syntax of version 4.1 was more or less back to the
one of QXP 3.32. Regarding Style specs, some minor corrections
had been done. But only as for applying them.
QXP 4.1 had a very bad bug (bounds of boxes). This one had been
fixed rapidly with the publication of version 4.11 (in April 2000)
but nothing had been done for the Style specs.
There is an official -- but impossible -- workaround: define
(by script) a Character spec for every Paragraph spec...
This is no good. This is against the nature of Character specs.
They are created for _exceptions_ inside of a paragraph. But never
for holding the attributes of the entire paragraph.
Now... you're certainly wondering why everyone has been pushing
you for upgrading to QXP 4.x...
