Unfortunately I am no kind of UNIX dude, so I have no idea what the hdiutil

poor editing made phrase it wrong. it's just "hdiutil", not
"the hdiutil". it's a command line utility provided with Mac
OS X. if you want a more comfortable paradigm, think of
hdiutil as a scripting addition with a very awkward syntax
that gives you everything Disk Copy can do and more.

basically you just have to figure out the syntax for a
series of commands to issue to hdiutil. the first thing to
do is download ManOpen (see VersionTracker; don't worry,
it's not a Unix program) and use it to read the man pages
for hdiutil. then you'll have some idea of the constructs
for creating and burning disk images. then use "do shell
script" to issue commands to hdiutil. all the other tasks,
such as organizing and copying files, can be done via normal
AppleScript.
