I have discovered that it isn't as simple as that. On a Mac with a
whole lot of fonts, there are a number of different ways in which
a font id gets resolved. Assuming a U.S. installed system, one can
probably count on Geneva and Monaco being at ids 3 and 4, but it
would be difficult to make this assumption for others.
Font management on a modern Mac is extremely complex, and not
for the timid. ;-)
