Bob,

Thinking back, I seem to remember an Applescript Developers Kit that was available from Apple for a price. I also have the first edition and the disk. I see what paperwork I have left from that time.

It actually didn't occur
to me, that release notes dating before the last version of ASLG
could contain anything that's of interest nowadays.

About a year and a half ago I was fortunate enough to find Danny Goodman's
"The Complete Applescript Handbook", first edition! 1993, at a local
Goodwill Computer Store (re-sellers of donated computers, related equipment
and books.) Unbelievably, the book pricing is $0.75 ea. or 5 for a buck!
Needless to say I was able to scrape up the 75 cents to purchase it ;) But
that's beside the point. Included with the book was a companion floppy disk
containing Applescript version 1.0, which foolishly, I disregarded as
obsolete! I didn't even look at it! Until today.

Well, on it are slew of sample scripts written by the AppleScript
development team. Many scripts written by Mark Minshull as well as some
where no credit is given, and one by Donald Olson that deals with numerics.
Should I be surprised that *all* of the scripts I've opened and ran, worked
without a glitch? On system 9.0. AS v1.4. These scripts are almost 9 years
old!, maybe older. And I bet they would work on newer versions. Also
included are 6 separate v1.0 release notes in STE format:

Known Language Problems
New Language Features
Script Application Notes
Script Editor Notes
Language Guide Errata
Scripting Additions Notes

Does anyone know if the sample scripts provided with this book are
exclusive, or were they included with the release of Applescript 1.0 in
general? There are scripts that demonstrate Run Script, Script Object
Servers, Libraries... All very concise and easy enough to understand. I
don't recall seeing anything like them included with AS v1.3(?) which was
when I first began dabbling with AppleScript. Did people have to pay for AS
when it first came out? The book lists the AS software as a $20 retail
value. I think these scripts would benefit budding scripters in the AS
community. Are they available elsewhere?
