OS X test for Class Folder

Hey there, anybody know how to test for a class Folder in OS X?

If folder of (myItem) then
display dialog "this is a folder!" buttons "OK"
Else
display dialog "This ain't no folder" buttons "OK"
End if

Doesn't seem to work. Any ideas welcome.
