(There is a very scriptable OS X email app, but it's expensive.)

Entourage X. It's part of MS Office v. X. If you have any version of Office,
no matter how old, there's an affordable upgrade offer direct from MS (half
the price of the regular upgrade price). It's still way more than any other
email app would cost because you also get Word, Excel and PowerPoint, which
makes it a bargain if you need even one of those in OS X, but not otherwise.
It has an excellent object model, is based on Outlook Express scripting but
expanded and improved, and is a pleasure to script.
Evidently there are two or three other OS X email apps. I'm sure you'll be
hearing about them too in about - 3 minutes?
