How to coerce a real to an integer in X?

Well, how? How does one coerce a real to an integer? I can't find an
obvious way to do it, unless I'm being more than usually dim.

The reason I want to do it is because I'm using a slider in an Applescript
Studio app, and want to collect the value of the slider (which is a real -
I've tested the class) and put it into an idle loop, which requires an
integer.

Suggestions gratefully etc.

best
Charles
