FWIW, PowerMail 3.1.1 is useable, and less expensive than MS Office ($50).
Its feature set is about half that of OE, but it's stable, scriptable, and a
lot more capable than Apple's own mail app, and it has a few nice little
touches of it's own.
Then again, it has a few nasty touches, like addressing responses to
messages on the AS list to the applescript-users-admin address (about which
Mr Espinoza has shown the patience of a saint).
And this from big-eyed ears:

Never having needed to do this myself, I can't tell from glancing at
PowerMail's AS dictionary whether or not it's possible with this app.
Download the demo & check it out, or I can mail you details of the PowerMail
dictionary if you require.
