AppleScript Lib obsolete?

Does AppleScript 1.8.3 under OS 9.x eliminate the need for AppleScript Lib?

My extensions folder includes version 1.4 of AppleScript Lib. The AppleScript 1.8.3 installer gave me an error message saying I had to remove the AppleScript Lib library before I could run the installer.
