1) None of the OS 9 scripting additions will work in OS X. Go to
<
http://www.osaxen.com> to check out the few osaxen for OS X. One of the
most useful so far is the Satimage osax, which had a new version release
yesterday.
2) Whatever you do, with an OS X osax, DON'T try to put in in
System/Library/ScriptingAdditions. that's only for Standard Additions and
other Apple osaxen installed by the OS. You can't even get in there unless
you took unto yourself su or sudo powers (or used some hackie to do the
same). The fact that you couldn't just put it there should have given you a
bit of an idea that it was wrong.
3) When you have a genuine OS X osax, you can put it it one of two places:
~/Library/ScriptingAdditions/ [in your user folder], or
/Library/ScriptingAdditions/ [on the root OS X HD]
It makes more sense to use the former, which affects only your OS X user, so
you can keep test users without 3rd-party osaxen, unless you're an
administrator of a multi-user machine and need to install it for all users
without enabling their access.
