In short, I want some suggestions.
I have been asked to give a talk to a special interest group, the OS neXt SIG, of our local Macintosh User's Group in Colorado Springs, subject: AppleScript
My problems are that:
1) I don't use OS neXt. I can't because OS neXt will not talk to my considerable investment in hand coded data acquisition procedures which still use MacOS 7.5.3 maximum on a variety of 68K boxes. I need to talk to them over Ethernet using AppleTalk with my G4 and 8500. It's easier to communicate using ftp with a real UNIX/LINUX box than with Apple's offering in OS neXt.
2) I am an expert with Apple's MPW and MacPerl neither of which is available on OS neXt. Well - OS neXt does allow the real perl and I like that.
3) I do use AppleScript but I have, so far, eschewed additions like SMILE and other osaxen. I prefer to use only stuff provided by Apple. I have several working Applescripts but they tend to be called from MPW toolserver or MacPerl. I edit them with MPW.
4) I am fundamentally biased in that I believe Applescript syntax is a pain in the ass. Being accustomed to C, assembler, and, long ago, FORTRAN I like well defined reserved words without guessing. I also minimize my AppleScript doing as much as I can with MPW and MacPerl scripts.
My audience will be users, Most have zero programming experience and will not understand MPW, C, or perl. I need to teach them about tell blocks and scripting dictionaries.
So. . .
Can someone provide a previously prepared list of topics which I can use for my talk?
What downloadable data should I recommend as a textbook?
Any suggestions which will help me to suppress comments I might accidentally make about why Applescript is such a PItheA?
Should I recommend Frontier? I have never used it.

Applescript syntax is like English spelling:
Roughly, but not thoroughly, thought through.
