when running the script have it display the address in a dialog and then copy it in internet explorer to check the address is correct. this you are sure of what the script tries to download.

ok, so i've taken the advice so far, thanks to all who have responded so
quickly by the way.
i have gotten the applescript guidebook module on url access scripting and
it has a very good example, almost exactly what i needed 2 weeks ago
(typical), but i am getting an error.
i entered in the url that i want it to download contents of directory for
and the error that pops up is -30773 invalid url...can you tell me why?

set the directory_URL to ,
"http://www.web-light.net/downloads/ttb"; & ,
"US/Macintosh/Modem/" <--does this line have somthing to do with it?
am i supposed to change
this to something specific if my computer is on a network? i am searching
for this answer and all help will be greatly appreciated,

thanks,
matthew
