Using the 'say' command in OS X scripting

  • Subject: Using the 'say' command in OS X scripting

I have old OS 9 scripts that use the 'say' command to speak text out loud. Now that I'm transitioning to OS X I get an error when coming to the 'say' command.

I don't think all the speech capabilities have been ported to OS X yet. However while researching this I came upon something that talked about accessing OS 9 functionality from OS X. I can't find this reference again.

How can I do this? Assuming I've got the classic environment loaded, can I get to the speech functionality from OS X scripting?
