Hello from another Austinite (right near you on Metric Blvd. and Braker)!
Make sure you downloaded the AS 1.8.3 for Mac OS X and not for classic Mac
OS 9. If the latter, then you only updated AppleScript in the classic
environment. Just download the Mac OS X installer and install that - that
should fix you up.
