Breakdown to Archive to CD

Just curious whether I'm reinventing the wheel.

I have folders that I need to backup onto CD(s), but most are well over the 750-800MB limit. I'm thinking of writing a script that will let me drop a folder on it and it will separate the content into several folders that will each fit on a CD. Any ideas if that already exists in either AppleScript or application form?
