Aatrix Mac P&L is an accounting program that was replaced
by (I don't remember what, something else equally painful).
It was originally a PC app that was ported to ensure
'cross-platform' capability, a requirement for bidding on
certain corporate and government bids. Both were good
solutions only if you have a large organization where
different people had to do different accounting tasks at
the same time; in general, the program was needlessly
complex and slow because they used a slow database
mechanism (on the mac side) to store the accounting data.
To add to the complexity, an AppleScript call, if I recall
correctly, ran the same set of code as a report generator,
basically stepping through every record of the database...
Meanwhile, it still seems no one around here can help you
directly, John. Sorry.
My suggestions are as follows:
1. Seriously consider switching accounting packages at the
end of this fiscal quarter. Take a look at MYOB
(www.myob.com) to start with -- last I heard, they had
updated it to include simultaneous multi-user capabilities.
If you are a single-accountant organization, definitely
consider MYOB, or QuickBooks (which, while simple as pie,
last I heard, had been dead-ended on the mac with no more
major releases to follow).
2. If you have heavily invested in Attrix, contact them and
ask for every Attrix-certified Macintosh consultant in your
state and in each neighboring state. Contact those
consultants directly and ask what their AppleScript
knowledge is like -- if it's good, consider hiring them
directly. This obviously doesn't seem to be a
do-it-yourself project, based on the pain and trouble
you've run into.
Best Wishes,
=-= Marc Glasgow
