You can use the Classic version of Smile (1.8.4 or whatever the last
approved version was) rather than the X version 2.x. Smile is not a FAT
application like SD. As I recall, the snag would be that Smile Classic
doesn't work in AS 1.7 that comes with OS 9.2.2. But if you have AS 1.8.2b3,
or maybe better AS 1.6 in the OS 9 System Folder's Scripting Additions
folder, and same version of classic Standard Additions in OS 9 Scripting
Additions folder, you should be OK. I used Smile Classic that way a while
back for precisely the same purpose. I haven't done it too recently,
however.
