after much searching on apples kbase, I found this:

ifconfig en0 | awk '/inet/{print $2}'

which from the terminal works great - returns my IP. but when I do:

do shell script "ifconfig en0 | awk '/inet/{print $2}'"

the result is ""

any ideas?
