renumbering footnotes

  • Subject: renumbering footnotes

Hi all,

I'm new to the listserv, and fairly new to AppleScript. I use it mostly to
organize and automate grep searches in BBEdit.

I'm facing a problem with a book I'm setting, and don't know if there is a
possible solution in AppleScript: I have 427 footnotes that my disk editor
nicely made sequential throughout the entire book, instead of chapter by
chapter. I can search for them all in BBEdit, but am reduced to renumbering
them manually.

Is there a way to search for them, replacing the first with "1", the second
with "2", etc, in AppleScript? I haven't been able to figure it out, but I'd
rather spend a day working on AppleScript than a day rekeying digits...

thanks,

Kenneth
