This is usual - nothing to see with X (nor with AppleScript :).

In France, we never send a TEXT file as an attachment. We know that as soon
as some SMTP server can recognize the file ("waow, that's a pretty gorgeous
text file isn't it?!!!"), we are screwed (accents are lost and so on).
Whatever the size of the file, we must stuff it.
