Further investigation of this issue here suggests it is either not an AppleScript issue or is a
combination of AS 1.8.3 and Networking Update 1.0.
Step 1:
G4/450 tower. OS X 10.1.5, MailSmith 1.5.1, AppleScript 1.8.1. Recording MailSmith works
Step 2:
Update to AppleScript 1.8.3. Recording MailSmith works
Step 3:
Update to MailSmith 1.5.3. Recording MailSmith works
Step 4:
Via Software Update, install Networking Update 1.0. Recording MailSmith breaks.
