Anyone any bright ideas how to work around this?
I have a need to get the size of folders on a remote server. In OS 9 get
size of alias 3xxx2 worked just fine. With large folders it took a while but
that was not a problem.
On OS X (10.1.5 & AS 1.8.3) it9s not so good. On large folders the Finder
appears to crash when a 3get info for...2 is requested but it is successful
for small folders. If 3get size of...2 is used instead then either 3missing
value2 or 30.02 is returned instantly.
Going back to basics I noticed this: if you have a standard Finder 3get
info2 window open and then you select a folder on a remote volume the size
field in the get info window will initially display 3Zero KB2, then it will
display 3Calculating Size2 and the it will either display the size of the
folder or it returns to 3Zero KB2. It seems to me that if it takes longer
than about 2 minutes to calculate the folder size then the Finder just gives
up trying and displays 3Zero KB2.
Any ideas?
Thanks,
Guy
