Speeding Up Scripts 101

  • Subject: Speeding Up Scripts 101

I have had a few weird experiences with scripts, seeing them run extremely
slowly and then, say, holding down the mouse button and watching them speed
up to blindingly fast. Also, emptying 5,000 items out of the trash
significantly sped up two of my scripts (one ran twice as fast, one fifty
times as fast).

I have been scripting for two years now and realize I don't have a good
general idea of what is "going on" inside my computer, or what kinds of
things effect speed--and why--especially.

There are very colorfully illustrated books which pretend to give one this
kind of picture, but I think I need something a little better than that.

Any hints, sites, books you can lead me to?

Thanks,

Danny Arsenault
