Also, iirc the Manilla CMS supports static, in addition to dynamic,
publishing. Much more powerful, a bit more expensive. I'm sure the Frontier
users on this list can tell you more about it than I can.

i use Frontier, but not for web work, so feel free to
correct me anyone who has experience with that side of it...

you wouldn't need Manila, as it's mainly a groupware
framework. underlying it, and existing both in Frontier and
Radio, are many tools for templating and publishing
webpages, plus a ton of string manipulation verbs geared
toward manipulating HTML. so generating static pages is very
well-supported.

also, Frontier can talk to any AppleScriptable app -- in
this respect FileMaker is perhaps the app i hear referenced
most often. since Radio is only $40, i would skip the $900
Frontier/Manila solution. still, there is a bit of a
learning curve (tutorials are available).

I don't have all the facts, but I would recommend using PHP and MySQL for

that's a good route for a dynamic website, but i think
Landis was pretty clear he just needs to occasionally
re-generate static HTML and put the result up on the server.

As for AppleScript solutions, I've written a template-based renderer called
AWPS primarily for static webpage rendering. It's pure AppleScript, OO,
very flexible and requires no 3rd-party additions.

You can find a really simple demo at:

this looks interesting. if it works well it might save
Landis the trouble of learning Frontier/Radio.

i did a little test under Mac OS X and the demo works both
in Classic AS 1.6 and (after resaving as a non-classic
application), under 1.8.1.
