I reboot nightly (well, almost nightly) to run my daily (well, almost
daily) Retrospect backup of the Mac OS 9 (never been Classic) partition.
[Until the Retrospect beta for Mac OS X came out, I wasn't backing up the
Mac OS X with 9 for Classic partition...now I do...now and then, to CD.]
I don't need to automate this (I have no idea when I'm going to run the
backup, or whether, as last night, I'll skip it).
I concluded a while ago that for me it is MUCH easier to use the Option key
at startup and select the Mac OS 9 volume when I want to go to 9 than to
mess with the startup disk settings in either Mac OS 9 or Mac OS X. So to
go to 9 I use an option key startup/restart, and to go to X I let nature
take its course. Only when I need to boot the 9 on the Mac OS X partition
do I have to mess with the startup disk settings...it was sometime last
fall when I last did that.
