[much clarity on path conversion snipped]

POSIX file "/Users/me/thing.txt" --> file "HD:Users:me:thing.txt"

one thing that doesn't seem to work, though is

POSIX file "~/foo" --> file ":~:foo"

which is not valid, or at least causes an error (AS 1.8.1 here).

what am i missing?
