This will be supported in the next version of Mail, which will be part
of the next major release of Mac OS X ("Jaguar"), slated for late
summer of this year.
And for extra credit, all Mail Preference panels will be scriptable
(Accounts, Signatures, Rules, and all of your other favorite panels).
