These application-oriented books are very good, but they don't provide a
basic reference that tells you how the language works and what its basic
elements are. In addition to _AppleScript in a Nutshell_ (which I think
is excellent) you should look at the Language Guides that Apple
publishes as PDFs on its AppleScript webpages. These are books for the
AppleScript Language, the Finder, and for Scripting Additions. If
you're looking for a tutorial you might want to look at _Danny Goodman's
AppleScript Handbook_.
