Importing Sigs to Mail.app

I have made the switch from Outlook Express to Mac OS X Mail. In
general, I'm pretty pleased. However, I have a lot of signatures in OE
that I'd like to transfer to Mail. I know how to script the exporting of
sigs from OE--there are several such scripts on the Web--but I haven't
figured out how to get those sigs into Mail.
It appears to me that Mail's signature functionality is not scriptable.
Since Mail stores signatures in a .plist located in the ~/Library/Mail
folder, is it possible to directly edit (or create) this file in Mac OS
X using AppleScript? Does anyone know how I might determine the correct
format for the file?
