that quote is a little narrow to be applicable to the
general case (though it's a smart idea for application
prefs, i think). also the fact that Apple uses resource
forks in new ways on Mac OS X. for example, if you use the
Show Info window to change the "open with" application, and
don't click "Change All...", then a resource is added to the
file. i suspect some engineer responsible for this feature
wisely realized the resource fork was the perfect place for
this information.
