Does that jive with what others have for AppleMail if you're using
AOL?
It shouldn't matter whether you are dialed into AOL or another ISP.
To make certain that all your settings are correct, use the .Mac
account type when setting up your account in Mail. Without seeing all
your settings, it's difficult to see what the problem would be. That's
why you should use the .Mac account type. :)

Try it without SSL turned on.
