Interestingly, browser protocol helpers are stored here too... but so
far, the only X browser I've found that will let you set a new helper in
a preference dialog is Explorer. The Explorer helper entry 'serves'
other browsers.

Is there a utility or addition somewhere (like ICScriptor -
Rosenthal/Crevier) that works in OS X to write to the prefs file?

I just 'got' here... here being OS X...
