Damn! You could be right, and I was just blindingly reasoning within a
very limited scope, thus overlooking an important part of the chain...
When the user drags something on a droplet, this happens through the
Finder interface.
And it seems (after a quick glance in the docs I have at hand) that the
Finder resolves dropped aliases before sending the event to the target
application (the droplet here).
Should it be the case, then, well, AppleScript can only do with what it
receives.
