Missing fonts and/or pictures are ignored on the open event, but a "missing

Then the best you can do is change any missing fonts to something you know
is present, something like (untested):
tell application "InDesign 2.0.1"
set missingFonts to family of fonts of document 1 whose status is
unavailable
if missingFonts is not {} then
set missingStyles to style of fonts of document 1 whose status is
unavailable
set change preferences to nothing
set find preferences to nothing
repeat with i from 1 to count of missingFonts
repeat with j from 1 to count of missingStyles
search document 1 with find attributes {applied font:item i of
missingFonts, font style:item j of missingStyles} with change attributes
{applied font:"Helvetica", font style:"Medium"}
end repeat
end repeat
end if
end tell
