Hello:
I posed this question a couple of weeks ago and got no response... I'm
still hoping someone here might be able to help.
I've been creating script applications which, as near as I can tell,
_require_ changes to both creator type and BNDL signature in order to
work properly in the context which they're used. For now, I'd like to
keep them run-only as well. I've found when distributing similar script
apps to others, the end user has to rebuild his/her desktop in order to
run them... at which point, on pre-OS X platforms, they do in fact run.
I have a third-party workaround (AKUA's IconFix) which allows me to avoid
the rebuild step on my own machine while I'm modifying and testing the
scripts, but obviously, a casual user isn't likely to be eager to rebuild
just to try out the app. Nor can the desktop be rebuilt in OS X...
though my scripts work on X... here... with the help of IconFix... which
seems a Catch-22 of sorts.
Unchecking the 'Inited' box in ResEdit appears to have the same effect as
IconFix. The scripts are then immediately usable... but this is not
something I can ask an end user to do either.
Does anyone know of a 'fix' for the scripts - ResEdit or otherwise - that
I can make at my end and thus avoid the end user having to rebuild?
Conceivably, I could include IconFix with the app distribution - it runs
in Classic - but if there's an alternative, I'd sure like to know of it.
Thanks much for any/all suggestions... this one is driving me around the
bend.
