I'm glad to hear this, and also rather disturbed by Paul's comment that
iApps should only handle meat-and-potatoes, while leaving "advanced"
functions to third-party apps.
I made the leap from Entourage to Mail and iCal for two reasons. The
lesser is that my Office is still in Classic and I wanted to get out of
there without plunking down an upgrade fee; Word 2001 is still fine,
but I'm in email all day long.
The more important reason is that I'm stoked over the move to make
Address Book a system-level database. There's just all sorts of
wonderful possibilities on the horizon if all iApp objects are
addressable by applications, and an important component of this is
AppleScript. But for right now, I'm still stymied over my attempt to
have my Mail sorted by sender membership in groups; partially because I
haven't put much time into this yet, and partially because the Mail
dictionary isn't there yet.
I'm happy to be on the bleeding edge and know that everything's still
at 1.0 or 1.1 or public beta, but I *don't* want to think that the
people driving this are shooting at a lower summit than I'm hoping for.
Best,
Jeff Porten
