Works perfectly, sets the personality. For some reason it seems to be
unwilling to believe that it could have done such a thing and errors after
doing just what it should.

Hey, what do you expect if you use 3.1.0! Nobody uses 3.1.0 and it had a very short life. If you don't take advantage of the free upgrades to 3.1.3, which are years old but still available at the ftp site, then what do you expect? If 3.1 had been perfect, they would not have offered free upgrades.
