Bill:

You're one good diagnostician. Also, you may have some skills as a mind
reader. This morning I was in the midst of testing the command with Default
Folder disabled when your message arrived. Bingo. If Default Folder is not
running, the "choose file name" command works fine with the "default name"
parameter. Turn Default Folder on and the same command causes the
application in the "tell" block to quit.

I've notified the developer of the conflict. Now if only I can learn a way
to have the window size and position of my scripts retained the first time I
save them from Script Editor, I'll be one happy scripter.
