InDesign 2 box names

Hi:

Does anyone know how to refer to a picture box (rectangle) by name in InDesign 2? There doesn't seem to be a name property for this. If there is no name property, how would I reference a box that has been moved, reshaped, refilled, etc., via script later on? Alternatively, how is everybody handling this situation with a workaround? XML? Layer name?
