Reentrance is probably not a minimal issue here.

a) Recording in Mac OS X has more bugs than in 9, and fewer recordable apps, but it does work.
b) Reentrance is not an issue at all.
c) When the Finder was rewritten for Mac OS X, recordability was low on the priority list and was left out. It's still on the list and may come back some day, but the reason you can't record the Finder in X is that the Finder in X isn't recordable, simple as that.

Entourage and QuickTime Player are recordable, try those apps.

Good news, thanks much.

I didn't know for QTPlayer, because I had to stop using it, since it crashes so much OMM (v6.0.1 Pro).

Since Chris kindly took the time to correct my poorly documented assertions (and I apologize for those), shall I take for true the poorly documented assertions of mine that he doesn't correct?

[Re: AppleScript's script size limite]
In my opinion, we are probably facing a minor bug of AppleScript. I'd
bet that they could have it fixed within 15 minutes.
