Did anyone try this in another language? Gaji?

tell application "Finder"
the items of the desktop whose kind is not (get the kind of the startup disk)
end tell

If it works properly then it seems like you could create a localization routine to generate localized values for the properties of the finder.

Yes, I have tried that in Japanese, and it works. I haven't tried any languages other than English and Japanese, but it seems the kind property is same for all kinds of disks/volumes. So it is one possible workaround.
