Rob,
The Keyspan SX-Pro cards have never been directly
applescriptable to my knowledge (both the OS X version
and v1.3 weren't). Under OS 8.x/9.x, you could get at
what you script their settings via QuicKeys, or more
usually, you simply set the settings and forget them,
getting at whatever you really needed to modify through
the Apple Comm Toolbox via your modem software program
(I traditionally used MicroPhone Pro, which was quite
robust in that sense, as well as supporting a built-in
scripting method -- I think the software has since died
a quiet death).
Similiarly, under the OS X version of the card driver
control (Keyspan Serial Assistant), there is no direct
AppleScript support, but you could conceivably hit it
with QuicKeys. Again, you are more likely to set the
settings and leave them alone in most situations, unless
you are constantly switching between devices on any
single given port. Where the card under OS 9 used the
Mac Comm Toolbox, the OS X version uses the POSIX
library, and I don't know of any AS-scriptable apps that
let you access it directly (except possibly terminal).
But -- and this is a big caution -- the OS X driver for
the card will require OS X compatible communications
software; it doesn't directly support classic apps while
running on the OS X driver (install the OS 9.x driver in
your classic OS for OS 9-compatible software to access
the ports).
As for OS-X native modem/serial communications packages
that support AppleScript, I haven't run across any yet, but
if you do, please drop me a note...
Best Wishes,
=-= Marc Glasgow

Does anybody know if there are scripting additions that will allow
scripted access to serial ports (such as the Keyspan SC-Pro 4 PCI card)
